As you are Governor of the Territory of Colorado, and Hon. J. M. Ashley, of Ohio is, and probably will again be, Chairman of the Committee on Territories, of the H.R. there is no objection to your corresponding with him about territorial matters. Yours truly A. LINCOLN

[1]   ALS, CoHi; ADfS, DLC-RTL. On March 6, Governor John Evans wrote Lincoln seven letters concerning appointments in Colorado, and on March 14 wrote six letters to James M. Ashley, bringing charges against territorial officers in Colorado and recommending appointments (DLC-RTL).
