[1] Copy, ORB. The original document has not been located. See Lincoln's order concerning Robert E. Coxe, January 5, 1865, supra. According to Hanson A. Risley's statement, this pass was not given him until March 16, though dated March 15. Orville H. Browning's Diary, under date of March 16, relates that Browning procured the pass for Coxe on March 15 and that ``the signature alone was in the President's hand writing---the rest in Mr Nicolay's.''
