[1] American Art Association Anderson Galleries Catalog 3955, March 4, 1932, No. 136. According to the catalog description, Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter from Isham N. Haynie asking the brevet rank of brigadier general for Colonel James S. Martin, One Hundred Eleventh Illinois Volunteers. Martin became brevet brigadier general as of February 28, 1865.
