Lincoln's endorsement is written on a petition of members of the jury, Washington, September 3, 1863, asking executive clemency for a Negro boy Nicholas Warner, whom they had sentenced at the May term of court to imprisonment for two years on charges of assault and battery. Marshal Ward H. Lamon endorsed the petition in concurrence on January 18, 1864.
