Annotation
[1] AD, DLC-RTL. As cataloged in the Lincoln Papers, this memorandum is incorrectly assigned the date ``[April, 1861].'' At least of the persons named (Bullitt) was commissioned as late as July 6, 1864, and some were merely reappointments to the office named (Durell and Parker). The list as a whole would seem to have been made out not earlier than July, 1864. According to the U.S. Official Register, 1865, William P. Kellogg was appointed collector instead of George S. Denison; the office of surveyor was not listed; T. M. Wells was appointed acting Naval officer; Benjamin F. Flanders, supervising special agent of the Treasury; J. M. G. Parker, postmaster; Thomas M. May, assistant treasurer; Cuthbert Bullitt, marshal; Edward H. Durell, judge (Eastern District); Jonathan K. Gould (instead of Charles A. Peabody), district attorney; Charles Smith, collector of internal revenue; Edmund Murphy, assessor of internal revenue.
