Annotation

[1]   ADS, NN. Private John Connor, First District of Columbia Infantry, was ordered released by AGO Special Orders No. 158, April 25, 1864. Lincoln's order is explained by a note of appreciation from Sister Emerentiana Bowden, Sisters of Charity, St. Matthew's Academy, April 23, 1864: ``Accept our heartfelt thanks for the Pardon of John Connor, prisoner in Fort Delaware, which, at our instance, you were so kind as to grant yesterday. You will ever have the prayers & blessing of the afflicted wife & four almost starving children whom you have relieved. . . .'' (DLC-RTL).
