Underwood, U.S. District Court, Alexandria, Virginia, March 14, 1864, asking discharge of Captain Christopher C. Callan and Private Daniel R. Payne, Confederate deserters, who had ``cheerfully given most important testimony for the government'' and would be important witnesses in other cases.
