[1] AES, DLC-Hitchcock Papers. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Edward Cooper and Judge Henry Cooper of Shelbyville, Tennessee, February 19, 1864, asking release of their brother F. F. Cooper, a prisoner of war at Camp Morton, Indiana, ill with tuberculosis. Stanton endorsed directing General Ethan A. Hitchcock to ``issue the order for discharge of the within named prisoner on his taking the oath.''
