[1] ALS-P, ISLA. Robert Irwin of Springfield wrote Lincoln on February 6, 1864, ``The bearer Mr. G. A. Van Duyn, of our city visits Washington to try and get a permit to trade South. Mr. Van Duyn is of the firm of G. A. Van Duyn & Co. a House of good standing here. (I have no doubt you will recollect him). Any assistance you can render him will be appreciated by Your Friend Robt.
