[1] AES, IHi. Lincoln's endorsement is written on an envelope endorsed in an unidentified hand ``R. D. Lawrence Recomd for Asst Qr Mr of Vols.'' A further unidentified endorsement reads: ``Left by Hon W. Jayne delegate from Dakota.'' Lawrence was probably Rheuna D. Lawrence, a merchant of Springfield, Illinois. No record of his appointment has been found.
