[1] ALS, RPB. See Lincoln to Burnside, December 26 and 29, 1863, supra, and to Boyle, January 6, infra. AGO Special Orders No. 16, January 12, 1864, commuted sentences of Daniel Burrows, Company D, and Abel Eaton, Company C, Sixth New Hampshire Volunteers, to hard labor for the balance of their term of enlistment, but remitted this sentence and returned them to duty ``upon condition they re-enlist in their regiment.'' The same order remitted sentence of Corporal Robert L. Crowell, Twentieth Kentucky Volunteers and returned him to duty. See Lincoln to Boyle concerning Crowell, December 30, 1863, supra.
