In addition to the within letter, I have personal knowledge of this case, and have concluded to ask the Attorney General to make out a pardon at once. I believe the sentence was for eight years.

The date and signature have been clipped from the endorsement, which is written on a letter signed by John Dougherty, December 16, 1863, asking pardon of Newton F. Jones, convicted of robbing the mail at Anna, Illinois, and sentenced in 1859 to eight years' imprisonment.
