[1] Copy, ISLA. LINCOLN 's endorsement is written on the letter of Brigadier General Hugh Ewing, June 9, 1864, immediately following his endorsement to Stanton, August 22, supra. Presumably Lincoln ordered Captain George W. Anderson to be restored to his rank, for he was not mustered out of service until October 31, 1865.
