[1] AES, Warren A. Reeder, Jr. Hemmard, IN Copy, DNA WR RG 92, Quartermaster General, P 117, B 221. The copy of Lincoln's endorsement is on a copy of Nathaniel P. Banks' letter to Montgomery C. Meigs, September 12, 1863, transmitting a report from Captain John W. McClure, assistant quartermaster in the Department of the Gulf, and recommending his promotion. McClure was brevetted major as of March 13, 1865.
