Annotation

[1] AE, DNA WR RG 94, U.S. Military Academy, 1862, Box 81, No. 284. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a telegram from Lieutenant Colonel Alexander H. Bowman, West Point, New York, to Montgomery Blair, September 9, 1863, that the board recommends re-appointment of Samuel M. Swigert. Swigert was appointed to West Point on September 29, 1863, and graduated in June, 1868.
