[1] ALS, NHi. The ``accompanying note addressed to Gen. Meade'' has not been located, but Meade's reply of August 12 is as follows: ``Your note of the Eighth inst. in relation to Col. M.D. Hardin 12th Pa Reserves has just reached me & I have given a leave for ten . . . days to that officer.'' (DLC-RTL). See Lincoln's endorsement concerning Colonel Martin D.
