[1]   ALS, RPB. Richard Smith's reply for the Gazette was received at 10:45 P.M.: ``The union state ticket is elected by a very large majority over twenty thousand. . . . official reports come in slowly now that the general result is ascertained & conceded by all parties to be great union triumph. Legislature decided union majority. . . . Congressional indications are the whole delegation is union. . . . Green Clay Smith . . . was elected over [John W.] Menzies against the opposition of the whole Ky press. . . . Brutus Clay . . . has two thousand majority . . .'' (DLC-RTL).
