[1]   Troy, New York, Times, February 9, 1909. According to the source, Lincoln gave this note to Robert Green of Troy, New York, who sought to recover the remains of Lieutenant Colonel James M. Green, Forty-eighth New York Infantry, killed in the assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina, July 18, 1863.
