Lincoln's endorsement is written on the papers in the case of Private Francis Dew (age 16), Company G, Second Massachusetts Cavalry, sentenced to be shot on charges of mutiny. General Wool had without authority commuted the sentence to imprisonment and hard labor for the duration of the war.
