Annotation

[1]   ALS, RPB. See Lincoln to Schofield, July 13, supra. Broadhead telegraphed Lincoln on July 14, ``Be assured that, whatever you may have heard, the arrest of McKee had nothing whatever to do with his political position. This can be fully and satisfactorily explained.'' (OR, II, VI, 115).
