Annotation

[1]   OR, I, XXVII, I, 58. The circumstances surrounding this telegram are not entirely clear. At 6 P.M. on June 26, Hooker telegraphed Major Thomas T. Eckert of the telegraph office, ``Dispatch received. My compliments to the President, and inform him that I had not that honor.'' (Ibid). A footnote in the source comments that the despatch referred to could not be found. At 8 P.M.
