Not knowing whether Col. Parsons could be spared from duty elsewhere to come to Washington, I referred Gov. Yates despatch to the Secretary of War, who I presume still holds it under advisement. A LINCOLN

[1] ALS, RPB. The address is added in a different handwriting. A telegram from ``St. Nicholas Hotel,'' received at 1:45 P.M. by the War Department, reads ``Please get answer from President Lincoln. Message sent Thursday signed Richard Yates Gov. of Ills.'' (DLC-RTL). Governor Yates' message concerning Lewis B. Parsons, assistant quartermaster at St. Louis, has not been located.
