A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   Henry S. Huidekoper, Personal Notes and Reminiscences of Lincoln (1896), p. 12. According to the source, Lincoln gave this note when Lieutenant Colonel Henry S. Huidekoper told him that he was on his way ``to the War Department, to ask for light duty at Philadelphia for a month or two, until I should be strong enough to return to the regiment.'' Huidekoper had lost an arm at Gettysburg.
