[1] LS, RPB. Confederate Major Lee W. Long, sentenced to be shot on October 30, 1863, had been a quartermaster under General Kirby Smith but had resigned to return to Kentucky. ``Whilst here trying to settle some business affairs he was taken prisoner, tried by a military commission . . . & condemned for `being secretly within the lines in violation of Genl Burnside's order.'
