[1] William D. Morley Catalog, November 17, 1941, No. 176. According to the catalog description, Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter of General Grant to the commanding officer at Indianapolis, Indiana, asking for discharge of a Confederate prisoner ``whose father has been a staunch and unflinching Union man from the first to last . . . and his son went into the service solely for the purpose of saving his family.''
