[1]   AES, owned by E. Channing Coolidge, Chicago, Illinois. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from A. Lawrence Foster, September 23, 1863, enclosing an affidavit of Charles Roby, Fairfax County, Virginia, which sets forth the circumstances under which his son Charles O. Roby, captured at Gettysburg, was forced into the Confederate Army, and asks for his release. Roby was released by order of Secretary Stanton on taking the oath.
