Hon. J. K. Moorehead Executive Mansion,
Pittsburg, Penn. Washington, Oct. 13, 1863.

Not unless you think it necessary. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   ALS, RPB. Lincoln's telegram to McVeagh, supra, was presumably sent to Moorhead as well. At 12:15 P.M. Moorhead telegraphed, ``Shall I publish despatchs. Allegheny County good for eight thousand (8000).'' (DLC-RTL). On October 15 Moorhead telegraphed again:

``I thank you for the despatch on Election day, immediately after I telegraphed you with regard to its publication, I found a bulletin on the streets giving an account of Meade's defeat. I at once published yours to counteract it, without using your name.

``Let me congratulate you on the glorious result in Ohio & Penna, who now declare for A Lincoln in 1864.'' (Ibid.).
