I think these papers are sufficient to take the case of Lieut. Thomson out of the general run. The strong recommendation of Gens. Meade, Pleasonton & others, together with the almost unanimous wish of the officers of the 5th Cavalry, to have him appointed, I think fully justify his appointment. Sec. of War, please see him.

[1]   AES, owned by Mrs. Andrew Jackson, New York City. No record of promotion for First Lieutenant Clifford Thomson, First New York Cavalry, has been discovered. Mustered out on June 25, 1865, he was appointed Major of the Fifth Colored Cavalry on June 26.
