[1] AES, IHi. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Colonel T. Lyle Dickey of the Fourth Illinois Cavalry, Jackson, Tennessee, June 21, 1862, praising the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Thomas E. G. Ransom of the Eleventh Illinois Infantry and recommending his appointment as brigadier general. The letter bears also a concurring endorsement by John A. McClernand. Ransom was appointed brigadier general to rank from November 29, 1862.
