This letter is written by Nathaniel P. Talmadge, long time ago, U.S. Senator for New-York, and afterwards Territorial Governor of Wisconsin.

I personally know nothing of Col. Bragg; and I submit the case to Gen. Halleck. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   AES, IHi. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from former Senator Nathaniel P. Tallmadge of New York (1833-1844) to Secretary Seward, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, September 27, 1862, recommending Lieutenant Colonel Edward S. Bragg of the Sixth Wisconsin Infantry for brigadier general. Bragg was not appointed brigadier general of Volunteers until June 25, 1864.
