the whole rebel Army will be drawn from Maryland.'' At all events Philadelphia is more than a hundred and fifty miles from Hagerstown, and could not be reached by the rebel Army in ten days, if no hinderance was interposed. A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   ALS, RPB. Henry telegraphed from Philadelphia at 4 P.M. on September 12 that ``The Emergency demands the assignment of a compe[te]nt Genl to take command in this City.'' (DLC-RTL).
