This letter is worth preserving; and, being addressed to the Secretary of War, I return it to him. A. LINCOLN

Dec. 4. 1861.

Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC-Cameron Papers. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter from Leonard Haskins, Starksboro, Vermont, November 4, 1861, stating that he had followed Cameron's suggestion by naming his triplet infant sons for Abraham Lincoln, Gideon Welles, and Simon Cameron. The verso of the letter contains also Cameron's endorsement of November 13.
