[1]   AES, IHi. Lincoln's endorsement appears on a letter of Senator Jacob Collamer to William H. Seward, August 21, 1862: ``I desire that my son William Collamer . . . receive the appointment of Paymaster . . . of Volunteers.

I presume on your kindness to present this my request to the President. . . .'' William Collamer was appointed additional paymaster as of November 1, 1862, and was confirmed by the Senate on February 19, 1863.
