Annotation
[1] ALS, RPB. This telegram is misdated August 21, 1863 in Hertz (II, 907). The telegram to Mrs. Lincoln has not been found. Margaret Wickliffe Preston, daughter of Robert Wickliffe of Lexington, Kentucky, probably wished to go through the Union lines to see her husband, Confederate General William C. Preston.
