August 20, 1862

I did not ask for information as to whether this man has been mustered into service. Have we accepted his actual service? If we have, let him be paid for them; unless there is positive law against it. A. LINCOLN

Aug. 20. 1862.

Annotation

[1]   AES, NBuHi. Upon receipt of Lincoln's communication of August 7, supra, Paymaster General Fry forwarded General Blenker's letter to the Adjutant General's Office. Assistant Adjutant General Edward D. Townsend endorsed that Captain de Bourry ``never was mustered into service.'' On August 23 Fry finally endorsed that ``Major Rochester will pay this officer from the 16th. Oct. 1861 to the 6th. Feby 1862.''
