[1]   DS, DLC-Nicolay Papers. The invitation is in John Hay's handwriting signed by Lincoln. The guests of honor were recently exchanged prisoners---Brigadier General George A. McCall, captured in the Seven-Days Battle and exchanged for Confederate General Simon B. Buckner; Brigadier General Michael Corcoran; Colonel Orlando B. Willcox of the First Michigan Volunteers captured at Bull Run; and Colonel Alfred M. Wood of the Eighty-fourth New York Volunteers wounded and captured at Bull Run.
