If Senator King has investigated, and says William Lilley is ``all right'' and another assistant Q.M. is needed, let him, Mr. L. be appointed---or---rather, re-instated. A. LINCOLN
Aug. 9, 1862.
Annotation
[1] ADS, DLC-RTL. William Lilley's appointment as assistant quartermaster with rank of captain, October 16, 1861, was rejected by the Senate on January 15 and revoked on February 3, 1862. No further appointment has been found, but Preston King wrote Lilley on August 20 that ``your case is made clear & straight'' (DLC-RTL).
