Executive Mansion.
Whom it may concern: Aug. 4, 1862
Edward Hall, a Texas gentleman, is a very competent, faithful, and genteel man. Yours truly, A. LINCOLN.
Annotation
[1] Dauber & Pine Bookshops Catalog 157, October, 1934, No. 531. Edward Hall has not been further identified, but he was probably one of a group of loyal Texans who were given refuge aboard the U.S.S. Montgomery off the mouth of the Rio Grande in June and arrived in Washington in late July or early August. See Lincoln to Stanton, supra.
