We want the proposed Regiment if we can get it, and, with the concurrence of the Sec. of War, and the Gov. of New-York, and not without, let Capt. Bradley raise the regiment.

July 30. 1862 A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   AES, DLC. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a letter dated July 28, 1862, from Morris Ketchum, New York capitalist who helped organize the Illinois Central Railroad, introducing ``Capt. Jas. H. Bradley of 5th N.Y. State Vols. . . . Capt Bradley proposes to raise a regiment. . . .'' No record of a regiment by Bradley has been located.
