Executive Mansion,
Hon. Senator Dixon Washington, July 24, 1862.

My dear Sir. The bearer of this, Mr. Bronson Murray, now resident in the 4th. District of Connecticut, wishes to be Collector for that District. He is my acquaintance and friend, of some years standing, whom I would like to oblige; but I should not like to appoint him against the wish of yourself & other Union friends there.

Please give the case such attention as you reasonably can & write me. Yours truly A. LINCOLN
