[1] AES. NHi. Lincoln's endorsement is written on the back of Secretary Cameron's letter to Wharton White of Philadelphia, notifying him of his appointment as first lieutenant in the Sixteenth Infantry, June 14, 1861. There is no record of White's reappointment prior to 1867, when he was appointed second lieutenant in the Twentieth Infantry on March 7.
