Hon. Sec. of Interior Executive Mansion
My dear Sir Nov. 21, 1861
Can you, by any possibility, find some place for Judge Taft? I shall be greatly obliged if you can & will. Yours truly
A. LINCOLN
Annotation
[1] ALS, MH. Judge Taft was probably Horatio N. Taft who retained his position as chief examiner in the Patent Office although appointed by President Buchanan. Taft's children, Halsey and Horatio, Jr., were playmates of Willie and Tad Lincoln. See Lincoln's memorandum, July 4, supra.
