Gen. J. T. Boyle Washington, D.C.,
Louisville, Ky. July 13. 1862.

We can not venture to order troops from Gen. Buell. We know not what condition he is in. He may be attacked himself. You must call on Gen. Halleck, who commands, and whose business it is to understand and care for the whole field. If you can not telegraph to him, send a messenger to him. A despatch has this moment come from Halleck at Tuscumbia-Alabama. FOOTNOTES}>(2) A. LINCOLN
