``Cypher''
Gen. J. T. Boyle. Washington,
Louisville, Ky July 13, 1862.
Your several despatches received. You should call on Gen. Halleck. Telegraph him at once. I have telegraphed him that you are in trouble. A. LINCOLN
Annotation
[1] ALS, RPB. From Louisville, Boyle had telegraphed both Halleck and Stanton on July 12 that Confederate General John H. Morgan was reported raiding in the vicinity of Danville, Harrodsburg, and Glasgow, Kentucky, with a cavalry force too large to be driven back with infantry alone. (OR, I, XVI, II, 734).
