[1]   AES, DNA RG 204, U.S. Pardon Attorney, A 419. Lincoln's endorsement is written on a petition for pardon of Josephus M. Clark, May 28, 1862, signed by Judge Samuel H. Treat and others. Although a minor and afflicted with ``an affection of the head,'' Clark had been sentenced to ten years for opening letters.
