Corinth, Miss. June 8, 1862.
We are changing one of the departmental lines so as to give you all of Kentucky and Tennessee. In your movement upon Chattanooga &c I think it probable that you include some combination of the force near Cumberland Gap under Gen. Morgan. Do you?
A. LINCOLN
Annotation
[1] ALS, RPB. AGO General Orders No. 62, June 8, 1862, extended the Department of the Mississippi to include the whole of Tennessee and Kentucky. No reply from Halleck to Lincoln's question has been located, but Brigadier General George W. Morgan was at Bowman, Tennessee, on June 13 (OR, I, XVI, II, 21).
