Annotation
[1] New York Tribune, May 20, 1862. Lincoln replied to a committee representing ``about one hundred slaveholders from Prince George's County, Maryland,'' who ``complained concerning the non-enforcement of the Fugitive Slave law in the District, and of the hindrances alleged to have been thrown in their way by Gen. Wadsworth, who, it seems, does not show much alacrity in aiding its execution, refusing wholly except when the claimants prove themselves loyal citizens, and on that point taking the evidence of the slaves.'' (Ibid.).
