Sec. of War please give fair and respectful consideration to the within recommendations of Miss Dix.

Annotation

[1]   Parke-Bernet Catalog 760, April 9, 1946, NO.60. The Register of letters received by the secretary of War (DNA WR RG 107 P 60) lists this missing endorsement and indicates that the persons recommended by Dorothea L. Dix, superintendent of women nurses in army hospitals, were Dr. John M. Cuyler and Dr. Joseph R. Smith. On June 11, Cuyler was promoted to medical inspector with rank of lieutenant colonel and Smith to surgeon with rank of major. Miss Dix also gave praise to Surgeon Meredith Clymer for his management of a hospital in Philadelphia.
