Gen: Ripley Executive Mansion
Sir Nov. 8. 1861.

Please see Gov. Wood and Mr. Woodruff, bearers of this, and make the arrangements for arms which they desire if you possibly can. Do not turn them away lightly; but either provide for their getting the arms, or write me a clear reason why you can not.

Yours truly A. LINCOLN

Annotation

[1]   ALS, DLC-Cameron Papers. Ex-Governor John Wood of Illinois, was quartermaster general of the state. Woodruff was probably his fellow townsman Mayor Isaac O. Woodruff of Quincy. Since there is no reply from General Ripley in the Lincoln Papers, it may be assumed the arms were provided.
