My dear Sir. Washington, D.C. March 22. 1862.
This will introduce my friend, Col. Thomas W. Sweeney, of Philadelphia, who has already done some service with volunteers, and is a gentleman of great intelligence and good principles. He would be glad to serve on your staff; but I do not know whether that is possible. Yours truly A. LINCOLN
